աւազը կը մնայ // The Sand Remains
“The water goes, the sand remains; The person dies, the memory remains.” -Armenian Proverb
In putting together her graduate recital, Armenian-American cellist Hannah Koshgarian chose a program of exclusively Armenian compositions. Having always felt a sense of responsibility in sharing her family’s culture, she uses this moment to bring the music of her heritage into spaces where it isn’t widely recognized. With pieces rooted in traditional sounds and scales that have also been entwined in more modern compositions, she describes “resilience” at the heart of Armenian culture and art.
